Count magnus and other ghost stories6/12/2023 “It’s the one I’ve always wanted to do,” Gatiss told SFX magazine of Count Magnus. It’s a tough story to adapt, mostly un-visual (padlocks falling from a coffin notwithstanding), more reliant than ever on the power of James’ words and although a few have tried it in short film form, it remained un-adapted for television until 2022 when Mark Gatiss, who had taken over the Ghost Story for Christmas strand in 2013 with a version of The Tractate Middoth, finally got it before the cameras in October 2022 for broadcast on 23 December. James’ 1904 story Count Magnus as part of his original run of the BBC’s annual A Ghost Story for Christmas strand, but had been thwarted by budgetary issues – the BBC had been reluctant to put up the money for an adaptation, presumably concerned about the cost of realising one of James’ few explicit moments, the image a handsome young man with the skin of his face torn from his skull. Back in the 1970s, when producer Lawrence Gordon Clark had wanted to adapt M.R.

Rhodes to Love by Danika Bloom6/12/2023 “Staring isn’t nice, Darcy,” Cameron says without glancing up. But if it does exist, Cameron Hunter could be their poster child. The Charleston Yacht Club is far from my scene. Not that I have any idea if Yacht Club Weekly even exists. He looks like he belongs in a freaking catalog. They’re cuffed just above his pristine Sperrys, worn without socks, of course, and an off-white sweater with a thin navy stripe hangs over his shoulders, the cuffs linked at his chest. His khakis are the perfect combination of tailored and casual, like he could really relax and be comfortable in them, but also like they cost him five hundred dollars. His pale pink button-down looks freshly ironed, and his sleeves are rolled neatly to his elbows. He’s leaning against the bookshelf across from me, his ankles crossed, his eyes fixed steadily on his phone. Which is why hating anyone with my whole entire soul is so bizarre. I love everyone and want everyone to love me. At seven years old, I talked my friends out of being mad at Tabitha Sharkey, the mean girl who wouldn’t stop pulling my hair, because “she was probably going through something difficult at home.” At sixteen, I spent every lunch period of my junior year hosting a “friendship booth” where new kids or lonely kids or any kids at all could eat in a judgment-free zone. Hating Cameron Hunter shouldn’t be this easy.

Unflattening graphic novel6/10/2023 Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller Winner of the 2018 Eisner Award for Best Adaptation from Another Medium Octavia E. And, finally, it introduces us to an irresistible little girl with whom we cannot help but fall in love. It shows how we carry on, with laughter and tears, in the face of absurdity. Intensely personal, profoundly political, and wholly original, Persepolis is at once a story of growing up and a reminder of the human cost of war and political repression. Marjane’s child’s-eye view of dethroned emperors, state-sanctioned whippings, and heroes of the revolution allows us to learn as she does the history of this fascinating country and of her own extraordinary family. Persepolis paints an unforgettable portrait of daily life in Iran and of the bewildering contradictions between home life and public life. The intelligent and outspoken only child of committed Marxists and the great-granddaughter of one of Iran’s last emperors, Marjane bears witness to a childhood uniquely entwined with the history of her country. In powerful black-and-white comic strip images, Satrapi tells the story of her life in Tehran from ages six to fourteen, years that saw the overthrow of the Shah’s regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq. Wise, funny, and heartbreaking, Persepolis is Marjane Satrapi’s graphic memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution.

Democracy in america volume 16/10/2023 When the Constitution was thus perfected and established, a new form of government was created, but it was neither speculative nor experimental as to the principles on which it was based. Their studies were conducted in view of the imperfections that experience had developed in the government of the Confederation, and they were, therefore, practical and thorough. In the eleven years that separated the Declaration of the Independence of the United States from the completion of that act in the ordination of our written Constitution, the great minds of America were bent upon the study of the principles of government that were essential to the preservation of the liberties which had been won at great cost and with heroic labors and sacrifices. If you notice an error, please let me know, identifying by chapter and paragraph where the mistake occurs. I have tried to catch as many actual errors as I could, but I am sure others exist. |
